Plant fall veggies now for winter healthy dinners
Mood:  bright
Topic: Fall Planting

Now is the time to plan the fall / winter garden.  Yes, here in the Ocala area we can plant winter veggies that won't freeze so we can eat healthy for the next several months right out of our yard.

Many veggie  starter plants are available in the garden centers now.  Choose wisely.  If you want a guick crop of tomatoes, be sure to check the number of days until maturity located on each plant info card.  Choose only the 58-65 day tomatoes-not the 78 or longer.  You will risk having to cover them up during an evening frost.  a quick crop of beans or snow peas may also mature before Christmas or New Years.

But the main plants to plant now are all the different kinds of lettuce, radishes, turnips, parsnips, brocalli, brussel sprouts, beets, collards, cabbage swiss chard.  What have I left out?

These starter plants are only available a few weeks between Sept and first of Nov.  After that all you can find are Poinsettias and Christmas Cactus.  Buy them when you see them.  Other plants are seed only, beets, turnips, parsnips, radishes carrots.

Plant soon and enjoy your fresh veggies all winter here in Ocala area.
